Planning Custom Displays Are Important in Promoting Your Business
Management 101 tells us that there are four management functions that we managers of our businesses should be aware of and actually should practice in the field. Management may not necessarily be difficult. It only takes following and implementing basic guidelines.
These guidelines have been proven correct even by Henry Ford himself. That is why for a time he pioneered and perfected the production line assembly of cars. Remember the Ford model T? He became very successful with this and today his descendents are still reaping the rewards he started.
Management books tell us that these are the Planning, Leading, Organizing and Controlling. Every true manager of businesses worth his or her spurs should be aware of these four. This is especially true if you are intending to have custom displays to promote your products and services thru your own store or joining trade exhibits.
The first step would be to do your homework and do some pencil pushing first. This means that you have to do some serious Planning first before you embark on acquiring truss displays and doing some form of displays.
Your goals and objectives should be clear from the very start. You should think about how many items you intend to sell, how would you do it, what is your time frame, how would you replenish your stock, what sort of accessories would accompany the displays and other sort of things that you can think of.
Planning as they say is the "first among equals" in the four management function. In Latin this simply means, "primus inter pares". Failing to plan is planning to fail. If you cannot do it alone ask the help of somebody who knows how to do it and learn from him.
Next, the Leading part would have to be done. This just means that you have to implement the things that you have planned. You as the manager should be clear on the rules of engagement of your staff. You cannot do these sorts of things alone. You have to enlist the help of people whether they are you family or relatives or hired hands you have to show them that what you are doing is really worthwhile and what is in it for them.
The leading part would also require you to communicate clearly your plan for the truss displays as well as exhibit your decision making in the aspect of operations (ingress and egress). You are the leader and your people should look up to you as the leader whom they can trust because you are an expert at doing this.
Then, you have to do some organizing. Setting up the custom display according to your objectives is the essence of organizing. You just do not organize based on your whims and caprices. The organization like where to put the shelves of the truss displays or where to put the computer racks all depends on your objectives and goals.
The organizing part should answer the questions of your objectives clearly and that it can be understood by all concerned staff.
Then lastly, the controlling part would require you to check from time to time if all the effort is according to the plan. Because if it is not, then you have to change course and make it go with the plan. An example would be placing a specific custom displays in one area but if you try to refer back to the plan it is not supposed to be there. The scientific to do in that instance is to remove it and place it somewhere where it is originally intended.
Of course, we as managers should be flexible enough in our decisions and be able to adapt to the changes happening around us but generally we should follow certain rules and regulations previously agreed upon.
Having to decide whether to have truss displays or not is as complex as deciding whether to purchase a private Lear jet for our own use. Will this help my business or not or can I afford it or not are the questions we have to answer first. But by following the four management functions in this activity might simplify things up.
